The long arduous wait for Assassin’s Creed is finally over folks. Today, the gaming gods are shinning their resplendent light upon us, and providing us with hours of entertainment for the rest of the week. I don’t know about you folks, but after I post this, I am on my way to pick up my copy of the game, and woe to the man or woman who interrupts me whist I play. I want to revel in the crisp clean fragrance of that wonderful “new game” smell, dim the lights, open a bottle of wine, light a nice vanilla cigarette and enjoy my game the way it was meant to be – full of sensory pleasure.

Ubisoft, long one of my favorites in the gaming world, amidst much hype and a tantalizingly pretty producer may finally have given us a game worthy of the publicity it has garnered. So whether you are a PS3 owner or worship at the altar of the Xbox 360 , it does not matter – we all win this situation. So, cheers to Ubisoft for finally delivering a game that has been on our minds for almost two years now and heres hoping that it is indeed everything we imagined it would be and more.

What happened to this game on metacritic? It was averaging mid 90s for a while, then lower 90s, now its down to 84. Its beginning to look more like a rental, just because there are so many great games out this month.

  2. Norbit says:

    IGN gave it a 7.5 :???:

  3. lorgar says:

I believe their major complaints are the tediousness of the misions and lack of character development. I think alot of it has to do with just too high expectations.

  4. William says:

well… i think the ratings are deflated due to the hype. I also think this is going to be one of those games you either love or hate. A rental might not be a bad idea to test the waters.

  5. William says:

eh….I’ve been playing a couple hours. I’m not particularly impressed with any aspect of the game. Some people may really love it. The story seems really cool, but the controls are just a little too hands off for me. I was expecting something a little more refined. The controls are somewhat sloppy for sure. I’ll give it some more time tonight to see if it grows on me, but I’m just not all that excited anymore with the game. If I had to guess, I’ll probably be giving this game somewhere in the ballpark of a 7/10. So it’s not a bad game exactly from what I can tell so far, but it’s nothing to write home about either. We’ll just see if my opinion changes after playing a few more hours tonight. But for now, I just don’t see this living up to the hype at all.

And whats up with games being short, i thought i read that AC was short, in addition to Uncharted and all these other games? I need more substance for 60$, not only 8 hours!

    @ Iorgar

If thats the best 8 hours you have ever played does it matter then? How about if its the most boring thing you’ve ever played but it has 80+ hours? The amount of time it takes to beat a game isn’t what makes it fun or not. There are some relatively short games that if you stretched out any longer they would totally just suck balls, take RE4 for instance, first play through lasted all of 9 or so hours and it was perfection. If they had tacked on some useless story additions or lame side missions that would have taken away from the overall awesomeness that it was. I might be rambling on a bit but how long a game is isn’t what makes it great or not.

    @thor,

“If thats the best 8 hours you have ever played does it matter then?”

Probably not, but what are the odds that it will be? More likely, it will just be another game, with some fun moments and some boring ones. That being the case, its not unreasonable to want a little more value out of $60.

  9. lorgar says:

    @ Thor

Actually i do agree, you make a good point. I guess its just a personal taste for an epic adventure (but not multiple games kind), and that there is something to be said for not out-staying your welcome.

the game is not short at all and a truely great experience.. screw reviews..check it for yourself. worth every penny
