Word has leaked from the ongoing GameStop manager’s conference in Las Vegas that the Animal Crossing: City Folk and Wii Speak bundle will run you a pricey $70 — which cued an anonymous 1UP editor to say, “$70!? For that price it had better come with a white van for abducting kids you meet in your magical little animal town.”

This bundle is a cheaper alternative to buying the game and microphone separately, with a standalone Wii Speak running you $30. Even so, $70 is an exorbitant price for a game that by all appearances hasn’t evolved much since we knew the game as Animal Forest for N64.

At $70, is the price now too high to engage in emergent gameplay-like activities such as makeshift fishing tournaments? Check out our E3 preview of the game here and let us know what your thoughts are in the comments below.

Please say this article is a joke.

In the UK & Europe (Australia too I believe) we’re paying $80-$100 for a single game alone let alone a game bundle. Even then your paying for a game with an accessory so $70 to me sounds much better than having to pay £180 ($350) just to play Rock Band.

  2. Crowhurst says:

@Mark: We’re not paying that much for games.

Most Wii games are about £20-£30 (some are £40), which roughly translates to $40-$60 (in some cases $80).

$70 will roughly translate to about £35, but we all know we will have to pay at least £50 for the bundle.

I think ALL current gen (aka next gen) games are overpriced. Yeah yeah they put a lot of work into it and packaging, advertising– FUCK THAT. Sixty dollars (U.S.) for new games is bull fucking shit. $50 for the last generation was bad enough.

THIS WHOLE WORLD IS FUCKED. IT’S A GOOD THING MOST OF US ARE GOING TO DIE IN 2012. (No worries, it’s Christian-free, and even backed by science!)
