American McGee, the man who created Alice has revealed a few more tantalizing details about his upcoming project, Grimm in a Games Radar exclusive interview. McGee describes Grimm as “the marriage of casual gameplay in small packages with a high-end 3D engine”. He comments on the type of action we can expect from the series.
The game is comprised of 24 individual episodes. Each episode revolves around a single fairy tale in need of rescuing from political correctness – the player needs to re-introduce the original darkness to each tale. This is accomplished through a series of mini-games, usually involving a single, simple game mechanic, such as flying, driving, sneaking, herding, etc. The mission goals are simple: “Make the wife a widow†– and the obstacles involved are character driven, interesting, and often darkly funny.
The innovative combat system developed for Grimm makes the pen mightier than the sword. The player can pull words from the world and fling them as weapons with a literal effect. Thus the word “burn” would incinerate the target. These power words will vary from mission to mission to maximize the effects that can be used. Game play sounds intriguing and the art is darkly beautiful. Check out the full article for more exclusive screen shots.
