AMD’s Bob Feldstein, VP of strategic development at the company, and Jon Carvill, PR for graphics sat down with Gamasutra to talk about their contributions to the Xbox 360 and Wii consoles. The pair discuss console Graphics Processing Unit development, the state of the video game industry and where it may be headed down the line from their perspective.
As the designer of the GPU for both the 360 and the Wii, AMD is deeply rooted in the video game industry. On “What do people want?” versus “What does technology drive?” Feldstein has this to say:
People don’t want to be driven by technology, of like, “This lighting over here is a lot, a lot better than the lighting over here, because, you know, some game site says so.” They want to have fun playing the game. And that’s the drama of the game, as much as the beauty of the art, and all that. It’s the whole gestalt, the whole thing that gets you into it. Something has to kinda unlock that door.
Read the interview as Feldstein and Carvill discuss how present console technology effects games as compared to PC tech, and what the future may bring on Gamasutra.
