Adam Sessler Responds To Internet Backlash On Assassin’s Creed “Glitch”

By Daniel on Saturday, July 14th, 2007 at 11:53 AM PST In Ubisoft, Videos

Yesterday I posted a video from G4TV that featured Jade Raymond showing off a demo of Assassin’s Creed, this time though, free of the little glitch we all witnessed during the Microsoft press conference.

Upon seeing the glitch during Microsoft’s press conference, the internet went a buzz with negative comments about the state of Assassin’s Creed and if it’s as technically advanced as Ubisoft says it is. That’s where Adam Sessler comes in.

As you’ll see in this video, Adam Sessler (co-host of G4TV’s X-Play) drops some knowledge onto the internet about the current status of Assassin’s Creed and how we shouldn’t pass judgment so easily on a game that isn’t complete.

Sounds like he was just telling people what they already should know.

  2. No Fan says:

The day you take advice from that guy is the day you need to seriously check yourself!

  3. ? says:

    WHAT A DOUCHE BAG OMG!!!!!!!

  4. Jordan Lund says:

I don’t recall any “Internet backlash” over AC. Sounds like the whole thing is made up.

  5. lebeau says:

Good for you Adam, but where were people talking crap about a game in it’s unfinished state. People will always find something to complain about anyway…

  6. anne non ee muss says:

You just used “OMG”, in all seriousness. Yet, he’s the douchebag?

  7. Daniel says:

@Jordan: If you know where to look, you’ll find hundreds, maybe even thousands of kiddies up in arms about Assassin’s Creed. Go visit some hardcore gaming message boards and you should find them with no problem

  8. anti biased says:

The only reason hes defending it is because it wasnt a ps3 game im sick and tired of how openly g4 bashes that system he is right on it being a demo and it should be expected that those things will happen on unfinished games hell id be suprised if AC was the only game in the expo with a glitch

  9. Daniel says:

@anti biased: Check your facts my friend, Assassin’s Creed is going to be released on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It just happened to be demoed during the Microsoft press conference.

  10. James says:

Actually there was a huge backlash Jordan but you’d comment anyway because you like to spew what you don’t know anything about.

  11. Sean says:

Its not that the game isent finished. We know that, We’re not stupid. Its that at an E3 press conference, gamings biggest stage, they showwed a buggy product. What if Halo 3 showwed that? or Warhawk? Killzone 2? They would be media-raped. Ubisoft is clearly not stepping up and putting their best hat on for E3, and thats whats got us talking about the buggy gameplay in assasins creed.

  12. James says:

    atta boy adam

  13. littletimmy says:

Sean, they took a chance and other than the fact that the guard was hanging mid-air, the game was actually pretty good. All these previewed games all took chances. This is not because they didn’t know it was going to happen. It was a chance accident and they calculated it to be minimal at best. But look at the uproar their generating. It only translates to curiousity then to actual game sales, so it may actually work in their favor.

  14. William says:

if the game is buggy upon release, then there is need for concern. Someone above mentioned Halo 3….there were tons of bugs and issues with the beta, but it’s a work in progress. Are you going to judge an artist on his half done painting? Of course not. You show me a pre-release demo without any issues… I don’t think any exist.

  15. Tony says:

I fully agree with Sean. If theyre gunna show a demo please dont show crap.

  16. Ariel says:

I’m sorry to say it (read: not surprised at all), but most of you people are full of crap. Adam is not defending AC because it’s not a PS3 game. Anti-biased, you made a highly unresearched statement. Second, the game is still not finished. The fact that a bunch of drooling idiots made a huge deal about a game’s DEMO glitching /online/ means nothing. I would be very interested to see them make a better demo. But because their lives give them enough time to start bitching on the intarwebz only proves how little credit their statements should be given. The developers could not have known their game would glitch during the expo, how could they? Aside from that, glitches show up all the time in PUBLISHED games. The fact that you (forumers included) feel the need to bitch and moan about whether it is advanced enough only provides proof that we need not even care.

  17. Ghost of the Past says:

I don’t know if anyone remembers this or not, but a glitch inspired a company to make one of the most anticpated titles coming out this year. Anyone remember Devil May Cry’s air juggle (which is basically the main aspect of gameplay) came from a glitch in Onimusha?

Although I do agree with Sean, you should put your best foot forward in a big press conference. On the other hand though, we should’t nash them too hard. This should be a joke not something to charge the presses with. I think we have become too much of a society that expects results now. Nobody looks forward anymore. The only thing anyone asks anymore is: How does this affect me today? Well, if you look at the potential, this looks to be a pretty kick ass game. One I will be buying.

Anyway, I hope to continue receiving demos even if they include a few glitches here and there. Maybe they can pass out more than one demo and give players kind of an idea of the progress they are making. Point is I just want to play video games. Even though this demo had a glitch, I still like the direction the developers are going.

  18. Some Guy says:

    Okay, lemme get this straight.

People are up in arms… about the fact that people are up in arms over a game bug. Woot.

No Fan– it wasn’t advice. It was an opinion statement, essentially a ’stfu and wait for it to be done. What the hell is wrong with you?’ Especially the part about “well, they aren’t gonna let us see it if you idiots keep bitching about how crappy it is.” If you take it AS advice, you need to check yourself.

Anti-Biased– that’s funny, cause it was originally supposed to be ps3 exclusive, and hopped on the 360 as well. By the way, in punctuation terms, they’re called comma’s and periods.

Tony– okay, you can wait till the game is finished for the demo. Everyone else will be here checking it out and ignoring the crap they’re in the process of fixing.

Essentially, he’s saying “what the hell people, why are you talking about the car’s bad paint job when it’s just a chassis at this point?” Get over the fact that your perfect games aren’t perfect yet.

  19. Ron says:

We got some up close time with AC at E3, and it looks to be well on track. I was actually more concerned about the fact that you could jump off a roof next to a guard without alerting him than I was some minor graphical glitch.

Regardless, you have to expect these sorts of things when you’re dealing with games that are largely untested, unfinished products. Just enjoy the peek you’re getting into the stuff you’re waiting on.

  20. handshakes says:

Yeah but for the all forced and fake hype auto-generated for AC I think any glitch or bug criticisms should be fair game.

  21. William says:

if people continue to get in an uproar about things like this, i can really see the industry changing to where we get no sneak peaks whatsoever. People need to chill.

  22. Tom says:

What is this gentleman talking about?

Movies get trailers and preview footage. Bands have always performed songs from their albums in concert before the album’s release (you know, that being what an album is) and the demos are sometimes leaked. Authors will often release or read passages from their books before release.

I like Mr. Sessler just fine, but this silly argument just betrays his insular ignorance of more established art forms.

  23. zep says:

    reply to tom:

what he’s saying is that developer’s let ppl see the games BEFORE THEY’RE COMPLETE. your argument is more about promotion and not about giving sneak peeks to an unfinished product.

movie trailers are not about the work in progress.
demos of music may be “leaked,” but the devs are not “leaking” their games, they are giving us a peek into a WORK in progress.

    the argument doesn’t stand.

  24. weclock says:

    See, I’m always right.

  25. Ron says:

@handshakes: You should keep in mind that a lot of the hype generated for this game is done by the gaming press, and the members of the fanbase who talk up the title on forums and sites across the web. Sure, Ubi contributes to that, but we all saw that glitch during the press conference. These types of things happen all the time during demos. The measure is whether or not these types of things are in the game at launch. If they’re not, WHO CARES?

@Tom: What zep said. A look at a demo of a game that is nowhere near even beta is a far cry from an author releasing one chapter of a book that is already being printed AFTER being written, AFTER being edited, and AFTER being proofread. It’s also nothing like the leak of a demo of a musical piece, as those are not released with the consent of the creator or the company that owns it.

In the games industry, we are privileged enough to have developers and publishers that give us a look at what these games are going to look like before they ever hit beta status. Naturally, they’re going to be protective of that content. Why anyone would criticize AC for what is obviously a minor glitch, and not mention the fact that GTA IV, which is just as close to release, is basically half done is beyond me.

  26. solidsnake_8608 says:

That’s why you don’t show a game that is full of glitches at E3 for christs sake. I mean, WTF?! Sessler is a dumbass, by Ubisoft showing a glitchy AC, what the hell did they expect? ITS E3! GROW A BRAIN!

  27. zach says:

funny thing is, the game actually released is filled w/ terrible glitches… not to mention the overbearing “i want to control everymove you make” aspect of the first hour of game play. and all the current times parts are terrible throughout most of the game… at least till the end, which is medioker at best.
