Activision Trademarks “DJ Hero”

The Guitar Hero franchise has done phenomenally well lately, so it should come as no surprise that Activision is looking to branch out into similar games. Thus, the company has filed for a trademark to the name “DJ Hero.” They’re hoping to apply the name to “computer game software and related instruction manual sold together as a unit; interactive video game programs; computer game discs; downloadable software for use in connection with computer games; video game controllers; interactive video game comprised of a CD or DVD sold as a unit with a video game controller.” Yep, it sounds like they’re working on a franchise involving faux DJ equipment as a controller. Don’t know how that would work exactly or if they could even secure enough widely recognizable songs to warrant a full game. We’ll have to see if this is just a passing concept or if it actually comes to fruition.

Keep up to pace
Look, why would fans of Guitar Hero want to play as a DJ. Isn’t that the opposite of what they listen to?
@Hawkeye: I think it could be a popular genre…. probably not as popular as guitar, but still good. You also have to consider that many music lovers listen to all kinds of songs. I’ll listen to anything from Mozart to Guns N Roses to dance music. I think people are far more eclectic than they were in the past.
