Activision Continues to Milk Guitar Hero Franchise With DS Version

What’s dorkier than playing around with a fake, plastic guitar? How about playing with a portable, stripped down version of a fake, plastic guitar? Activision has revealed their upcoming attempt at a portable version of their successful Guitar Hero franchise with “Guitar Hero On Tour,” due out this summer. This time, instead of holding a full guitar, you’ll attach a peripheral to the back of your DS. Then you’ll push the buttons in sync as usual, but this time you’ll strum using the stylus and touch screen. Call me crazy, but that seems to ruin the whole idea of pretending to be rock star when you’re essentially holding a DS with a safety strap. This looks less geeky than that Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker that showed up at this past CES, but still way more geeky than the original Guitar Hero. Tune in next week when Activision reveals their umpteenth spin-off, furthering their efforts to run the franchise into the ground as quickly as possible.

Well I’m gonna have to say it’s actually a pretty cool interface on how they did it. Kudos to milking that teet.

Wow, very interesting. I doubt that I would ever get this for my DS but it’s understandable as to why Activision would want to make Guitar Hero work on a system that has an installed user base higher than all three of the current generation of consoles combined.

That commercial was so lame it actually angers me.
