ron 2 About Gaming Today

Ron Whitaker, Editor

Ron got his start in gaming at an early age, with a classic Atari 2600. Since then, he’s owned just about every gaming console known to man. However, with age he realized that PC games were the greatest draw for him. Accordingly, he spent years burying himself in online shooters, and also buried an inordinate amount of cash in his gaming gear. These days, he can be found playing anything from shooters to MMO titles to tabletop RPGs, or anything in between. If he’s not gaming, he spends his time enjoying one of his many hobbies, which include ballroom dancing, decorative hedge-trimming, and automobile restoration.

Shawn Sines

Shawn Sines, News Editor

Shawn Sines is an avid game player and a former US Marine who has been writing video game review and feature pieces freelance for over 6 years. He served as the game reviewer for The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Alive and Columbus Parent in Columbus Ohio. He is also the co-host of GameOn! a video game podcast hosted by the Dispatch Media Group. Shawn’s personal favorite genre are RPGs and Strategy, though at the latter he never claims to be very good despite hours of trying.

Eva Sines

Eva Sines, News Editor

Infected with AD&D at an early age, Eva’s been a gaming addict since man first translated pen-and-paper RPGs to PC and consoles. She brings her experience as a staff writer for Gaming Nexus to the fold. Eva’s an avid hunter of the videogame in all it’s forms, from the humble text dungeon to today’s wonders that have all but conquered the Uncanny Valley. Her guilty pleasures are adventure games and RPGs, but any game with an involving storyline is a win. When she’s not writing or gaming, she spends her time corrupting her children and friends with all those amoral violent videogames. Shooting Zombies is good anger management.

Steve Burgin

Steve Burgin, News Editor

When not interrogating bunnies into giving up the location of their carrot stash, Steve spends most of his daily energy consuming games. While growing up, he claims games were his most favorite of hobbies (beating out stiff competition ranging from collecting Transformers, trading baseball cards, to playing golf). Steve’s introduction to gaming (at age 6, no less) was Mattel’s Intellivision (courtesy of his uncle & dad). While he has wild conspiracy theories that go as far as to blaming long sessions of Lock N’ Chase and Pitfall as major contributions to his extreme nearsightedness, he also admits the most likely candidate was sitting 3 feet in front of “those damn CRT TVs” for countless hours. “The blurry images from them nuked my corneas…”, he retorts.

Nonetheless, he marched on satiating his teenage video gaming appetite throughout the 80’s via Apple iic (his first PC), Atari 2600, and even the original NES. It wasn’t until after he graduated from high school that he found his true love: DOS/Windows PC gaming. Throughout the 90’s, it was strictly PC gaming for him “to the point of obsession”. In fact, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that he broke his long-time console abstinence when he purchased an Xbox 360. Yet, he still maintains that “I had a moment of weakness there.”

pepe About Gaming Today

Pepe, Gaming Today Intern

Gaming Today’s only editorial intern, Pepe came to us in an unusual convergence of circumstances at E3 2007. We didn’t even know we needed an intern but thanks to the kind folks at Eidos and a gift from a Cimmerian king, Pepe has come to America and Gaming Today to offer his services and the perspective that only a desiccated shrunken head can offer on the modern video game scene. Pepe hopes his work for Gaming Today will earn him enough money to move into a place of his own but until that unlikely day (it’s an unpaid internship) he’s staying in News Editor Shawn Sines’ basement.
