Warner Bros. Interactive, Equity Games, and Halcyon Games announced via a press released this morning that they are currently at work on a videogame tie-in for the movie Terminator Salvation. The movie stars Christan Bale as John Connor along with Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard and rap artist Common (Smokin’ Aces) and is set to be released in May 2009 with the game to be released in conjunction with the launch.
Terminator Salvation: The Videogame will give players the chance to assume the role of John Connor as he battles for survival against the far superior forces of Skynet. This third-person action game developed by GRIN Studios, the creators of Bionic Commando, focuses on concentrated armed combat against all of the Skynet enemies from the film while encountering new enemies specifically designed for the game and “an incredibly fluid and realistic control set”.
While no specific consoles were mentioned, the press release did indicate that it will be made available for all “next-gen consoles” which we can only assume means it will be released for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Gaming Today will be sure to let you know when we find out more.
Now–let us all cross our fingers that both the movie and the videogame will be well worth our time. I did not say to hold your breath, just cross your fingers.

Capcom is gearing up for the release of Bionic Commando, the latest iteration on the original NES game. The latest reveal is the Airforce Biomech, the tank of the BC universe. This rugged assault mech comes armed with massive laser weapons, an electrical pulse emitter and a range of projectile weapons. It’s rigged with a mobility jet pack and energy shields. The heavily armed jet engines are powerful enough to give the mech mid air maneuverability.
The Bionic Commando site has received a retrofit. You’ll find new character profiles, weapons, enemies and organizations to whet your appetite. Capcom also released a trailer of the new Polycraft mech. You can get further details on the Polycraft a watch the Bionic Commando ‘Polycraft’ Trailer courtesy of FileFront. Mind the age gate.

GRIN, the developers of the Bionic Commando remake, have announced that the company is opening up a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new studio will be over 2300 square feet and is set to open its doors in January 2008.
Currently, GRIN employs over 190 people, but are in the process of hiring additional employees to round out the company. “Our ambition is to be better, faster and more fun to work with than other developers and we want to spread that ambition to the Gothenburg region,” said GRIN’s CEO Bo Andersson. “We’ve had a very successful year and our goal is to continue the success with the opening of a new a studio in Gothenburg.”
Previous development projects from GRIN include the PC version of Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, and as stated above, is currently developing Bionic Commando for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. So, if you are in the process of trying to get your foot in the door of a good gaming developer, and are of the mindset to move to Sweden, this could be the news you were looking for.

There are new screenshots from the recently announced next-gen version of Bionic Commando up. They basically reveal a few more enemies and some of the combat. Besides swinging around like a mechanical Spider-man, it looks like you’ll be able to use your hulking grappling in the most natural way: beating the tar out of giant robots. How that guy can swim with that thing though is beyond me. Unfortunately, still no sign of Hitler in this new version.

I’m going to come right out and say this is the coolest trailer of the day. It had some tough competition, especially from the new Street Fighter IV trailer. But this video for the next-gen Bionic Commando has won me over with its grappling hook arm and orchestrated version of the original game’s music, not to mention the all-too-true closing word, “finally.” If you played the original NES games years ago, you’re probably thinking the exact same thing.

There are some new screens up for the recently announced next-gen version of Bionic Commando. Mostly they show some of the enemies you’ll be fighting, plus one shot of the main character. Like the old NES game, you’ll use a grappling hook to swing and navigate through buildings and structures as well as attack enemies. Hopefully we hear more details on this one soon, since this is something fans of the old game have been waiting to see for a long long time.
