$99 PS2 Releasing in Early 2008

Sony has revealed that a lower-priced PS2 will be hitting the market after the holidays. Sometime early next year, the compact version of the PS2 will begin retailing for $99; a $30 drop from its current price. The price cut is in part due to a new built-in power supply that reduces the production costs for the console. Industry experts have theorized for awhile that a price cut could reinvigorate the system’s sales figures. Looks like the PS2 isn’t getting phased out just yet.

$30
well whoop-dee-doo.
they should be dropping fat psp prices.
if they drop the prices that low, then even the PS2 might become a competitor for sony psp and ps3s =\
I think the psp is superior to the psp.
hahaha, oops, I meant the psp is superior to the ps2.
I hope that includes the silver version. That way I can get it and give the old one to the kid. Although I’m not sure if she should have one of her own. She’d never leave her room.
Fantastic….but this is a further hinderence for Sony to get their PS3 being shifted. As I keep saying, they keep implying that if the PS2 is still a viable market, there’s no need for a PS3. Seriously Sony, get someone with good PR, advertising knowledge and some frikkin’ media psychologists and sort this out. Great, one the best consoles ever is now really cheap, but, you’re not helping your future.
now that you mention it, Joelteon, this does seem like a mixed message from sony, especially since they’ve flat out said the reason the latest PS3 models don’t have full backwards compatibility is because they want people to focus more on PS3 games.
