93 Percent of Games Fail

More than 9 out of 10 games will not be successful, at least according to the Chief Marketing Officer of Midway.
ShackNews has an article quoting Steve Allison as saying 93 percent of games will fail in the marketplace. He said that just because games receive good reviews or high scores does not mean that they are guaranteed to become commercially successful. “What happens all too often in the videogame business is that we get art house movies made at blockbuster budgets,” he said in the article. “These games inevitably fail to find an audience large enough to support their costs, and nobody is happy.”
This is surprising considering the amount of video game sales in the United States, where something like God of War 2 sells 833,000 units this month. Is it really that narrow of a margin where only the top blockbuster games can be successful?
