This is getting quite funny now

It turns out the PS3 DOES use 65nm chips after all. The reason they denied it is because its only the CPU that is 65nm.

It is amazing that they have managed to cut the power by 32.5% just by altering the CPU so I imagine it will drop by more when the GPU goes 65nm as well.

It seems the new PS3 doesnt use the 65nm chips but it does use 60w less power.

The fan noise has also dropped by 30%.

So does this mean you won't be able to use the 40G PS3 as a grill?

lousy fanboys. I doubt that many console users are basing their purchase on power consumption. It is nice to see a drop for any of the consoles though. Hats off to Sony.

I remember last year when a lot of people were making a fuss about the PS3 using 380w. That was utter nonsense obviously. It was proved in independent tests that the PS3 uses a maximum of 200w and the 360 maxes out at 190w but if power consumption IS as important as those people were trying to make it then this 32.5% drop should receive a lot of praise.

I suspect however that power consumption was only an important point to some people when the (false) figures looked seriously bad for Sony.
