2K Games to Publish Mafia 2

2K Games (who must be rolling in cash with the release of BioShock today) have announced that they will be publishing the sequel to the hit gangster title, Mafia. Like the original game, the sequel will immerse players in the mobster lifestyle in a free-roaming environment set in the 1940’s and 50’s. Players will be able to engage in this mob action from the driver’s seat as well as on foot, all the while interacting with an impressive array Hollywood-style characters. The game is being developed by Illusion Softworks for next-gen consoles as well as the PC. According to Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K Games:
“As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game’s fans. The ‘wow’ factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies.”
The first Mafia title was a lot of fun (except for that one freakin’ racing mission) so you can expect this new incarnation to revisit the feel of that game. There are also some snazzy screens up for the sequel that you can check out here.
