15 Reasons The Xbox 360 Will Have Another Great Year In 2008

Microsoft may have some serious customer satisfaction issues right now, but the great games keep coming for the system and will certainly have a huge impact on the continued success of the 360. Despite XBLA and XBL issues, I believe that the 360 will have another great year simply because of the great games coming to the system. Below, I have listed 15 games that are at the top of my wish-list for 2008 Xbox 360 titles. For now, all of these games should be releasing this year, but as always, expect at least a few to be delayed. I truly believe that the Sony PS3 will finally have a good year and could possibly outsell Microsoft, but it’s a long year and no one knows how things will go down. The following 15 games certainly look like we could be experiencing another great year in gaming: (note that some of these titles are still rumors)
Halo: Chronicles?
Did I miss something? I believe LotR:The White Council is still a dead project. And Where did you hear of the Halo:Chronicles? I’m interested in seeing more on this at the least. Also did they actually announce Battlefront III? Last I heard from Lucasarts at E3, Battlefront was going PSP only at this point.

I thought LOTR: The White Council was dead too, but received some word on it. I’m going to try to contact the developer to get some official word on it. Some of the games I included were still based on rumors that they were being released such as Battlefront 3. LucasArts is well-known for dumping false info on reporters too, so there’s no telling what will happen with that.
Halo: Chronicles I have been keeping an eye on for some time. I don’t really have any in-depth info on it yet though.

I think it will be another good year once these games start hitting, especially those cross platformers such as SC 4 and GTA. But i thought there were some worries for the tomb raider game since its production house was going under or some such business nonsense…
I thought H:C was the Jackson game, couldn’t be sure. Could’ve been something as silly as Halo 1-3 in one neat package that would be totally kick-ass awesome…but an MMO? Oh dear. I can’t see that, in any shape or form, working.

I actually think its pretty much a dead cert that the PS3 will outsell the 360 this year. According to VGChartz the 360 only sold 704k more worldwide than the PS3 last year even though it was way cheaper and had far bigger exclusives.

Why would somebody still buy a PS2?
Missing on the list is POssibly two huge blockbusters, Gears of War 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2. Two exclusives too.
Xbox 360 can’t match Sony massive exclusive list Sony is going to wipe the Xbox 360 outer the video game business than a bullet. PS2 is still selling great i’m a buy 2 more PS2s soon so i can have 8 PS2s. PSP will beat DS boring kiddy games this year. Wii is too damn gay and outdated and shorth on hardware. HD DVD is dead the Xbox 360 add-on was a failure just like the system is.
Ivan_PSP STFU. While yeah the PS3 will wipe the 360’s ass, the 360 isn’t all that bad anyways. Don’t even try to insult the DS by calling it’s games ‘kiddy’ or ‘boring’. Also the Wii is not gay nor is it outdated or short on hardware. Nintendo decided to go with gameplay and not graphics which is a good choice since I play games to have fun but not play just to look at beautiful graphics but the gameplay being horrible.
The Wii is underpowered, it has about the same power as the original XBOX, it’s games will get old and people will look for the powerful games on the 360 and PS3.
The 360 still has twice as many consoles as the PS3 out there so it stands to reason they might not sell as many as they already have a much larger userbase.
The 360 has the best selection ALREADY out and more on the way.

That means one thing there will be much more stuff for ps3 version of gta 4, and all the other big games.
HD dvd is losing againt the blu-ray.

LA Noire is also going to be on the 360 and The Agency is also on PC. Unfortunately Naughty Dog are now making an Uncharted sequel before Jak & Daxter so that wont be out for a few years now.
It is still a fantastic lineup of exclusives and you can add all the multi-platform titles including 9 or 10 from this posts list of reasons the 360 will do well.

Pretty much every list of 360 games I have seen is always missing titles, where is Alan Wake, Too Human, Left for Dead, Gears 2, Ninja Gaden, how do you forget Ninja Gaden? WTF! These are all huge titles, the PS3 actually has fewer thn 360 because most of the listed PS3 titles will be delayed till 2009, we will probably only see MGS4, KZ2, LBP, and GT Prologue in 2008.
Keep in mind GTAIV and all the EA sports titles give 360 the advantage because it is the system to play those games on due to rumors true or untrue of the superior version being on 360.

Multiplatform titles that will also be on the PS3 should NOT be considered as reasons that this will be a great year for the Xbox 360.
Ninja Gaiden 2, Alan Wake, Too Human, Left 4 Dead, and Gears of War 2 are important titles that are missing.
Jade Empire 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III are also rumored to be in work. For a while, I thought those two franchises along with Mass Effect would go multiplatform. However, BioWare has just said in an interview in the lastest EGM issue that Mass Effect, AND Jade Empire, AND Knights of the Old Republic – those three franchises will stay as Microsoft exclusives for good. That’s surprising. I wonder what’s the deal there.

1. Deus Ex 3 is something any fan of the Deus Ex series will be wary of. 2 wasn’t nearly as good as 1, some would say it was crap, I think it was OK but definitely not as good as 1.

4. Hey, I’m hoping to high hell the Halo RTS doesn’t suck, they shut down a third party mod that was making their own Halo RTS because of it, and theirs was looking pretty good. Utter rubbish. The PS3 will have more exclsuives released on it this year. Absolutely no question about it. Before you disagree you should remember that games like Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2 and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction are not exclusive because they will be released on the PC as well. I will be able to play those games without buying a 360 so how the hell can they be 360 exclusives lol?.

I’m not sure how you can say the 360 is the system to play GTA4 on when it hasn’t even been reviewed yet (stupidity I’m guessing). Sure there will be exclusive content released at a later date (2009 was the last update I heard) but how that effects what the game plays like when its released I dont know. I doubt there is a single human being on earth who would chose to buy a 360 over a PS3 just because of some DLC being released for GTA4 a year after release, yet there are definitely people who will buy a PS3 to play GTA4 on because they will be able to play the online part of the game for free, because the console is hundreds of times more reliable and because the console is made by the company that made their last console on which they played loads of exclusive games which they will only be able to play on the PS3.
Microsoft keep boasting about what a huge year the 360 had in 2007 yet even with games like Halo 3, Bioshock & Mass Effect it still only managed to sell 704k more than the PS3 which is just 58k a month. That rubbish when you remember how much more expensive the PS3 is, the fact that none of its big exclsuives have been released yet, the fact that its online service isn’t fully operational yet and that the PS3 wasn’t even released in Europe until March 23rd.
Anyway, this whole situation will become a lot clearer over the next year. The PS3 has already sold over 60k more than the 360 this year in just one week and I expect that gap in weekly sales to get bigger and bigger as the year goes on.

I work in a video game store, basically in about 2months (just before xmas i might add) i didnt see a single 360 sold. Not saying its a bad system, just saying thats what happened. But meh, were all gamers, cant we just agree that all systems are good and bad in thier own ways and live in a harmonius and peaceful life. Then again i play WoW, so what do i know ^^

Those wre not good reasons at all. (I think he made a personal list of games he specifically liked without thinking about the public.)
This is not a good enough reason to think the 360 is going to have another great year.
You forgot some of the most talked about games in your list and quite frankly… makes it sound like you’ve never played Gears before.
But I think the PS3 is going to have a better year seeing that we are getting a lot of big hitters. (I don’t believe any of the current titles are going to be delayed anymore… Maybe Haze but only for a maximum of another 5 months.)
I think the PS3 is going to expand more and more and ever keep evolving. I don’t see much happening on the 360 except for the fact that microsoft keeps coming out with things to charge you even more money for when the PS3 keeps offering something of the same value…. but for free.
Take UT3 for the PS3 for instance… Its so easy to import a mod on the PS3… I wonder how they are going to do it on the 360…
I did mention it was “my” wish list for 2008 360 titles, so the list actually was a personal list of games I specifically like or would like. Sure I’ve played Gears and honestly I’m not a big fan, but I’m fine with the fact that so many people love it.
I never mentioned the PS3 in the article, and it’s funny how it always becomes a system vs. system debate even when that’s not the intention. If someone were to ask me my system vs. system opinion, I think 2008 will be the year for the PS3 without a doubt in my mind. However, the 360 is still going to have a great year whether it finishes in 1st or 2nd or even 3rd.
I hate the 360 as a console, I really don’t like how Microsoft treats people, yet I’m still a believer in the system, because it has great games.
I could go in depth and give hundreds of reasons the 360 will have a great year. I know for certain that the PS3 is going to do great. I assume the Wii will continue with success, but part of that depends on continued 3rd party support, which could be an issue later on in the year.
I’m not really sure how 2008 will stand up to 2007 as far as successful games, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a good year again.
I’m also not a fanboy of any kind. I have a PC, I have a G5 Mac, 360, Wii, PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, Genesis, SNES, N64, PSP, DS, and my still functioning original Atari 2600. So in the end, I could really care less about the consoles. I just love the games and each system will usually have something good to offer. I think some people feel that there’s no room for 2 or 3 consoles and would love to see their console of choice win a war. There’s really no point in that considering competition will always improve quality.

A lot of fanboys think 2008 is going to be the Year of the PS3. However, I see another trend. I think 2008, in terms of third-party software offering, is going to turn out to be the “Year of the Wii”.
So far, third-party developers have stumbled and made mistakes in making games for the Wii because they are still unfamiliar with the motion control of Wiimote and Nunchuck. The motion-based control and gameplay requires brand new ways of thinking in design and conceptualization. Third-party developers are still adjusting to and learning how to successfully integrate the Wiimote into their game design.
My prediction: By the end of this year, third-party will have successfully made that transition, and we will see a whole slew of “AAA” titles for Wii from third-party. And those third-party titles will successfully integrate and utilize Wiimote in their gameplay.
So, if you don’t already have a Wii, get it ASAP — because it will be really hard to find one again the next Christmas (2008).
I’m not really sure what will happen with 3rd party developing on the Wii. So far, 3rd party titles haven’t sold well on the system. Some industry insiders have predicted that 3rd party support will dwindle for the system before the year ends.
Of course, anything can happen. I think if they could have some high levels of success with just a couple 3rd party titles, that could open some doors. If they continue to fall short of expectations, I see developers focusing more efforts on 360 and PS3 titles.

I think there’s convincing arguments to be made for good years for all three consoles; I don’t see the relevance of pulling up a list of PS3 games to try to say that the 360 will have a bad year. If the PS3 ends up having all these AAA titles and 360 owners start going out and scooping up PS3s, I imagine most wouldn’t trade in their 360s in the process but rather simply end up with both consoles. I know in the last generation I ended up with at one point a PS2, an XBOX, and a GC, acquired in that order, and I know other people who ended up with multiple consoles. What system one buys multiplatform games for at that point comes down to individual qualities and user preferences. I know if I bought a PS3, i would still buy all my multiplayer games for the 360, because I personally know a rather large number of people with 360s, but I know exactly one PS3 owner.
A couple of notes though:
1. “Exclusivity” in games usually refers to console exclusivity, ignoring existence of a PC version of a game. Unless I’m really out of touch, this is generally understood to be the case.
2. I think it would be more appropriate, due to the respective launch dates to compare the 2007 PS3 sales figures with the 2006 360 sales figures, which if I recall correctly were higher than 2007s.
3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t some of the best PS3 games of 2007 (like Uncharted) sell like crap? It’s not really a knock against the PS3 itself, but it’s something to take into consideration when predicting the kind of sales you should expect in 2008.
Also: to say that one version of a multiplatform game will be better than another (like GTA or Soulcalibur) when the games aren’t even out yet, and with no real evidence to suggest as much, is just ridiculous.
And, because of the strong sales of multiplatform games to this point on the 360, it’s perfectly legitimate to use those as examples for why the 360 will have a good year.

No Andrew, I’m afraid you are wrong. The only people who think a console game that is also on the PC is a 360 exclusive are Microsoft and 360 owners.
The Agency for instance is not a PS3 exclusive because it is also on the PC.

Uncharted has so far sold 760,000, Heavenly Sword sold 740,000. Ratchet & Clank sold 640,000. Hardly ‘crap’. They have all sold more than PGR4 has on the 360 for comparison. As I’m sure you are aware none of those titles are exactly in the same league as Metal Gear, Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo either.

Nordit is a seriously hardcore Sony fanboy and troll. He’s trolling Play:Digital and few other places as well, spreading his “Sony gospel” wherever he goes. He’s a “covert or die” kinda guy.
Console exclusives *ARE* exclusive, like it or not. It is a competitive advantage when it comes to between Xbox 360 and PS3. The only people who keep arguing that a console exclusive does not count as an exclusive for Xbox 360 are militant Sony and PS3 fanboys.
Microsoft specifically uses the compatibility and portability between Windows and Xbox 360 as a competitive advantage. You can read it in their financial call transcripts between executives and investors. Microsoft sees having their Xbox 360 games on the PC as an asset, not a liability. Microsoft likes it, and they pursue that business strategy of cross-platform development for 360 and Windows. (I’m sure Norbit would like to think of himself as smarter than all the Microsoft execs with Yale and Harvard graduate degrees and IQs of 150+.)
And the sales numbers do prove that as an asset. Right after BioShock came out, the 360 sales got a spike. Now that’s a competitive advantage of 360 has over PS3. BioShock sold over 2 million units so far, and 70-80% were sold on 360. Now that’s a competitive advantage that 360 has over PS3, however Sony fanboys want to spin it.
Norbit can argue and stay in deny about it. The point is: a lot of people buy 360 to play BioShock and other titles that are also on PC (but not on PS3.) Nowadays people would not upgrade or buy a new computer just to play those games. That’s why UT3 PC and Crysis have been selling so poorly. Nowadays people play games on consoles, not PC.
I’m sure Norbit is going to argue that he played BioShock on his PC (I doubt it, but hey, if he said so,) and he going to make the gross assumption that everyone else would be willing to play the game on PC rather than 360. But seriously, how many people actually played it on the PC? Well, they are in the minority. The majority of gamers who do not have a PC that’s capable of running BioShock and want to play BioShock (and that’s really 80% of the case, according to sales numbers) would rather buy a 360 than a new PC or graphic card just to play the game.
