12-Year Old Boy Runs Away From Home After Parents Take WoW Away

What kind of evil parents would take World of Warcraft away from their 12-year old son? Just kidding! Any kid who would run away from home because their parents took away their video game probably needed it taken away. Personally, I see nothing wrong with adults being addicted to video games, but at 12 you should probably have plenty of other things to do in addition to playing games.
Growing up, I was restricted to about 30 minutes a day for video game time, and although I didn’t like it, I have to appreciate that my parents kept things under control. My complete addiction to games didn’t come full circle until I was in my 20s. I also have to consider the fact that it took less time to beat games back in the old days. 30 minutes was plenty of time to beat most games if you had the skills.
A 12-year-old boy from California reportedly ran away from home after his parents took away his World of Warcraft video game.
“We were so worried about him. We couldn’t find him anywhere,†said mother Dorothy Rollins about her son’s disappearance.
“We called everyone, our neighbors, his friends. Nobody had a clue about where he could be,†she said.
According to Stanton Weekly, the parents of 12-year-old Damien Rollins decided to take away his World of Warcraft video game after they say he became addicted to it. That night, the 12-year-old apparently left his room and vanished.
“He got it [WoW] for his birthday and hasn’t stopped playing it since,†said Damien’s father, Thomas Rollins.
“It got to the point at which he would play all day and throughout the night. More than 15 hours nonstop sometimes,†said Dorothy.
After looking for hours, the parents finally gave up and called the local authorities. When police arrived, Dorothy received a phone call from her son.
After his World of Warcraft was taken away, Damien apparently became upset and stayed in hiding at a friend’s backyard before making the call home.
Damien was returned home soon after and reunited with his parents.
“He’s learned his lesson. We’ll let him play the game occasionally, but not for hours and hours at a time,†Dorothy said.

I’m your typical 12 year old. I’m immature, a bit overweight and I play runescape and look at porn for 6 hours a day. People can call me sad but I don’t care. As human beings we each have our own individual lives and our own choices and it’s up to us how we want to spend our lives. So people stop bitching and telling us to get a life and stop telling us what you did at our age before online gaming. The kid probably just ran away from home to try and change his parents mind. I gotta gree though 15 hours is over the top. I acctually don’t think it’d be possible for me to fit that much time in in one go.

Lol, ok this is quite funny. I play wow….probably too much, but my grades are A’s B’s and sometimes (very rarely) C’s. Besides theres nothing wrong with wow the only reason you get addicted is because its a good game….its been proven ( well almost. And then because its so fun you dont want to play anything else because its more fun than all the rest. And have any of you heard about the 12 year old boy who saved his sister by wow?…

There you have it, proof that WoW saves the lives of children! It should be played in schools to teach kids valuable life skills! In all seriousness though, good on you Hans, and it’s nice to see WoW being accredited for something positive

We’re torn. Our 7 year old daughter loves video and computer games (her DS, Gamecube, and Playstation) and she’s good at them! She’s seen my boyfriend play WoW, and is begging for us to let her play. We’ve told her she’s too young, and should stick with the games she has. But after reading these comments, and ones from other websites I’m wondering….are we being overprotective??
i personally dont think you are being over protective (this may contredict anything iv said :S) cos my brother is 12 now and he went absolutly crazy when he wasnt able to play it so if i were you let her play the trial version of the game and see just how much she gets adicted, if she seems doomed to the game then make something up and make sure you wait untill she is older, maybe about 10 because if not you will not like it one bit, or just set the settings so that the actuall game doesnt alow her to play longer than w.e you want it to be. and aswell as that get her to pay for it with her birthday money if she wants it that bad… because why would parents buy an addicted kid? well hope that helped mish if u need anything else just coment again and ill try and help

no,no,. i’m not going to give all of that BS about “parents are gay” or “the future is ruled by technology” i play runescape every once in a while. i’m not addicted, and i think those kids are. to you two cousins, get a life. be logical here, training magic and fighting goblins is not going to earn you an honest living. saying that you’re “getting a head start in your technology carrer” is complete and utter BS. you must realize that what you’re doing is unhealthy and completely obscure and unheard of. like others have said, lose your 200 pounds of bubbling, horrid fat and start playing sports or atleast get outside. idk if you have friends in real life, but if you do, round them up and atleast go prank someone’s house outside. throw small rocks or play dodgeball, use nerf and water guns, just do fuggen something.

but those kids especialy nomwowgirl and smooshy are probally not what they say. first nowowgirl says she is 10 but has perfect spelling and diction plus the styling of the text is not what a ten year old would say. then smooshy is purposly spelling screwed up. either a pediophil or smashy under a nother name.

i am new to this internet shit but just from what i see here i am scared for society. grow up and be yourself stop the fakeness on the internet!!!!!!!I am 40 and i have a ps3 and sony vaio and i play any time i want hell video games today are like interactive movies. we had atari and even in the day breakout and bomber man ect. ocupied hours of my siblings and my time. i am not fat and i have a life outside of video games. its great entertainment but there is much more to life than a glowing screen.

I’m a 12 year old guy, and I buy games like wow and i used to play runescape, but after a while, you think that runescape is stupid and a waste of time…
And why would you bother to get a high lvl in a stupid game anyway? You could have been doing MUCH beta things (and funner things!)

I’m sorry but this isnt so much about wow as it is about 12 year old kids. Its a sadly a pretty natural thing for kids of that age to do. Take something away from a child and they get all huffy, take something away from a preteen/early teenager and they take things massively to the extreme.
